Her elder brother is engaged in small business. She have to leave school due to the poor economic condition. But she is an expert weaver in traditional designs. She weaves mekhala chaddar but could not afford the cost of raw materials required for making a mekhala chaddar set. Similar is the case of Sabita Das a poor weaver from Balasiddhi village under Chhaygaon Development Block. She is the eldest in her family consisting of four daughters and parents. But with the initiative of Grameen Sahara with the generous support of NEDFi , both of them received a loan of Rs 20,000.00 as well as Rs.26,000.00 under national backward classes finance. A portion of the loan has been spent by her towards loom up gradation and moreover both of them have already received a Jacquard and proper training on design development under Golden Weavers Project of Grameen Sahara. The rest of the amount she spent on buying raw materials such as cotton yarn for both warp and weft as well as card designs for jacquard design towards weaving Mekhala Chaddar set. These Mekhala Chaddars are of very high demand both in rural and in urban areas. Since the price of these is not so high, so these garments are very popular among the buyers. More over Grameen Silk Producer Co. Ltd. which is an institution promoted by Grameen Sahara provides a ready market for her products. Within this year Padumi will be able to weave 140 no.and Sabita will produce 150 no. of Mekhala Chaddar set. The price of these designed mekhala chaddar in the market ranges from Rs.400 to Rs.600 and there is a margin of 35% so in this case They will be able to earn revenue of Rs. 24,500/- and Rs.26,000/-approx. annually. Both of them have already started producing Mekhala chaddar set and selling it in the local market as well as to the producer company. With this Padumi is also helping her brother to open a grocery shop in front of their house. Similarly, Sabita can now support her sisters education with the money earned. With this their social status has arisen to an extent as she could contribute to her family income. Thanks to the initiatives of NEDFi towards financial inclusion of the deprived backward class community.
